MUSCAT: The Royal Hospital (RH) has launched laparoscopic surgery for extremely obese patients with acute diabetes or those who cannot undergo sleeve gastrostomy.
The procedure is performed by making five incisions on the abdomen and then make a pouch on the intestine that would be fused to the smaller intestine.
This surgical procedure will help reduce the size of the stomach and the patient feels full after even after eating small amount of food. This method helps the patient in losing weight by 75 per cent after the first year of operation. Moreover, compared to the traditional gastric bypass surgeries, this method has reduced post-surgical risks, besides its high success rate.
After the surgery, patient should lead a healthy lifestyle, and consume only nutritious foods, doctors said.
